‘Impure’ is a small independent film released this week. Directed by Nishanthi Evani, who worked in the direction department of ‘Maa Inti Bangaram’, the film marks her directorial debut. Nandini Reddy also supported the film by attending its promotions. Let’s see how well ‘Impure’ works for the audience.
Impure Story: Sandhya’s (Yashna Muthuluri) marriage is called off after the groom’s family learns about her past relationship. She faces humiliation from society and struggles at work. Her cousin Veera (Varahi) questions the double standards around virginity through a viral Instagram reel.
The story follows Sandhya as she deals with the aftermath, while also exploring Veera’s personal life and Pranav’s dream of becoming an actor. Meanwhile, Nish (Abhijeeth Sreenath) enters Sandhya’s life and brings a new turn to her story.
Performances: Yashna delivers a natural performance as Sandhya, while Varahi stands out as Veera, especially in the climax. Sai Krishna is convincing as a struggling actor, and Abhijeeth Sreenath is decent as Nish. Kireeti adds some humour, while the remaining actors are adequate.
Technical Aspects: Gnana Shekar V.S.’s cinematography is a highlight, especially in the climax. The film deals with women’s struggles, social discrimination and double standards effectively.
However, the slow screenplay, excessive silence and weak music affect the experience. Some subplots and character arcs also fail to make the desired impact.
Analysis: Overall, ‘Impure’ has a good core idea, but the weak and less engaging screenplay holds the film back. With a stronger narrative, the film could have made a bigger impact.
Verdict: ‘Impure’ raises some meaningful points about women and society, but its slow narration and inconsistent screenplay prevent the film from making a strong impact.
Bottom Line: Good idea, weak execution.
Rating: 2/5
