The Madras High Court has issued a new update in Ilaiyaraaja’s case about the songs used in the film Dude. Ilaiyaraaja says two of his old songs were used without permission.
But Judge N. Senthilkumar said he must clearly explain how this affected him. The judge also noted that reusing old songs in new films is common and postponed the order, asking Ilaiyaraaja’s team to submit more proof.
Earlier, Ilaiyaraaja had filed a copyright case against Sony Music and Oriental Records. Following the judge’s advice, a separate case was filed against Dude.
The new complaint says the songs ‘Karuththa Machan’ and ‘Nooru Varusham’ were used and altered without permission.
The Dude team claims they legally purchased the rights from Sony. After hearing both sides, the judge postponed the case, drawing attention across the film industry.
