The copyright dispute between Ilaiyaraaja and Saregama India has taken another important turn.
The Delhi H.C has refused to lift its earlier order which prevents Ilaiyaraaja from using or licensing songs from 134 Tamil films until the final verdict is announced for sure.
The list of the songs includes popular classics such as Annakkili, 16 Vayathiniley, Mullum Malarum, Raaja Paarvai and Netrikkann which are amazing. This case is about who owns the legal rights to songs created between 1976 and 2001.
Saregama says it has legal ownership through agreements with film producers while Ilaiyaraaja claims creative ownership of his compositions.
The case is considered one of the biggest copyright battles in Indian music and could have a major impact on how music rights are handled in the future.
