Ajith’s recent film, directed by Adhik Ravichandran and released on April 10th came with huge expectations. The movie was made on a big budget and featured many popular actors.
While G.V. Prakash’s music added some strength, the film received mixed reviews from both fans and critics. Soon after the release a major controversy started over the use of Ilaiyaraaja’s old hit songs.
According to reports, Ilaiyaraaja sent a notice to the production house, claiming that his songs were used without his permission and demanding Rs. 5 crore as compensation.
The team replied saying they had purchased the rights but they did not reveal who gave them those rights. This led Ilaiyaraaja to approach the Madras High Court which issued a temporary order stopping the use of those songs.
Even after removal, the issue continued. On December 3rd, the judge ruled that only the composer has the right to allow usage, dismissing the production company’s appeal.
