Kamal Haasan conquered the North-South linguistic barrier much earlier than the rest, and he has been a fan favorite for decades.

The well-known actor and director Kamal Haasan claims that he anticipated the OTT revolution long before anybody else, but others did not share his opinion. On Saturday, he was addressing outside of a press conference for the IIFA 2023 Awards.

OTT, which is currently taking over the audience’s thoughts, was brought up when Haasan was questioned about his opinion. I advised everyone to become involved, but the business community objected. But now that Indian audiences have experienced foreign cinema, everyone knows what I was trying to communicate.

Kamal Haasan conquered the North-South linguistic barrier much earlier than the rest, and he has been a fan favorite for decades.

When asked about staying relevant, Kamal Haasan said, “I am a film buff. I’d make the kind of movies that I’d like to see myself. Sometimes I get involved with them, and don’t act in them, I produce them, and I am doing it even now. There are a couple of films that I am producing, where I have nothing to do with them, except spend money on them.

Kamal was asked if it is the responsibility of producers to develop talent and present captivating stories because the landscape of cinema is changing as a result of new technologies and a different storytelling approach. “Let’s say you have an MA in literature,” he remarked, “but that doesn’t make you a good screenwriter, it just makes you a degree holder.”

He added: “This is a different art. If Shakespeare came today, he would take a few workshops in screenwriting. And he was one of the greatest artists who ever lived. See, it’s not just the producers, the industry itself has done very little for industrial training.”

Regarding the state of training for prospective filmmakers, Kamal stated: “The only way we have managed to survive thus far is by being street smart. Education progresses extremely slowly, almost naturally. A journalist goes to another journalist for training; similarly, actors and directors ought to behave.

Despite being the country that produces the most films globally, we lack enough training facilities. While there are many sites to study cricket, I’m not sure I can say the same for films. I’m not blaming anyone; I’m also a part of this.

Kamal Haasan is currently working on “Indian 2,” a film directed by Shankar and starring Rakul Preet Singh and Kajal Aggarwal.
