Some Malayalam movies create a buzz across India, while others go unnoticed. Hridayapoorvam, starring Mohanlal, is now streaming on Hotstar. Despite pre-release hype, it couldn’t match the craze of Loka.
Hridayapoorvam Movie Story: Sandeep (Mohanlal) survives a heart transplant from a Pune colonel. When the colonel’s daughter Haritha brings him to her engagement, Sandeep forms unexpected bonds with her and her mother Devika, leaving him confused about his feelings. This love triangle forms the story of Hridayapoorvam.
Performances: Usually, seeing heroes as fearless warriors gets boring, but here Mohanlal shines as a sensitive man recovering from heart surgery, bringing a fresh take on heroism. Sangeeth Pratap adds humor in a supporting role, while Malavika Mohanan impresses as a modern lady, Haritha as Independent, and Sangita Madhavan Nair acts naturally as the mother. Siddhi’s comic timing adds extra fun, making the performances and humor a highlight of Hridayapoorvam.
Technical Aspects: Justin Prabhakaran’s music and Anu Moothedath’s cinematography make the movie feel pleasant and engaging. Senior director Sathyan wanted to tell a simple story with emotional connection, as he has in his earlier films.
However, in Hridayapoorvam, the story moves slowly after the first half, looping in the same spots. Despite some happy moments and good dialogues, the audience may lose the emotional impact and start wondering when the movie will end. A bit more pacing could have helped.
Analysis: Hridayapoorvam has a good cast and story but feels slow and dragging in parts. On OTT, using the forward option makes it easier for viewers, so the whole family can watch without getting bored.
Verdict: Hridayapoorvam is a heartfelt film with strong performances and pleasant visuals, but a slow pace and dragging scenes make it a test of patience. It’s best enjoyed on OTT, where viewers can skip ahead if needed.
Bottom Line: Hridayapoorvam charms with emotions but drags.
