Indian film Homebound, the only entry from India at this year’s Academy Awards has moved one step closer to Oscar success in the International Feature Film category. This achievement has raised strong hopes for a final nomination.
On Monday the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced a shortlist of 15 films that have advanced to the next round of voting and Homebound is one in them. These films were selected from countries across the world.
The next stage will reduce the list to five final nominees which will be announced on January 22nd. The Oscar winners will be revealed on March 15th at a grand ceremony in Los Angeles. The shortlist also includes acclaimed films from Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany and other nations.
Homebound has already made history by becoming only the fifth Indian film to reach this stage. Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and produced by Karan Johar and the film stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor. It follows two friends whose dreams are tested during the COVID-19 pandemic.
