There’s no need to specially mention how big of a hit the 90’s web series was. Every episode, every scene, and every artist got a good name from it. Now, the same banner has come up with a new web series called Home Town. Directed by Srikanth Reddy and starring Prajwal Yadam in the lead, this series is produced by Naveen Medaram and is streaming on Aha. Let’s see whether this series can impress the audience just like 90’s did!

Home Town Review

Home Town Movie Story: Srikanth’s (Prajwal Yadam) father (Rajeev Kanakala) dreams of sending him to the U.S. for higher studies and plans for it from his childhood. But Srikanth is more interested in films than studies. Home Town follows his journey of chasing his passion and the truth he discovers along the way.

Performances: Rajeev Kanakala shines with his natural performance and Telangana accent, perfectly portraying a middle-class father. Jhansi impresses with her expressive presence. Prajwal brings good energy, balancing humor and emotion as a relatable son. Anirudh and Sai Ram add fun, with Sai Ram’s innocence standing out. A former child artist delivers a strong message in the climax, while Sravya leaves a mark in a brief role.

Technical Aspects: Since the production house already delivered a hit with 90’s and most of the same team worked on Home Town, the influence is clearly visible in the making. From the color palette to the background score, the similarities stand out. However, Suresh Bobbili’s music effectively enhances the emotions, and the cinematography is decent. A little more investment in DI could have improved the visual output.

Director Srikanth Reddy picked a story with all the right elements to connect with the audience. However, the emotional depth needed to fully engage viewers was missing. In particular, Episode 4, which focuses on Facebook, felt stretched and disconnected some viewers. That said, the ending was decent, helping the series secure an average score overall. This isn’t a comparison with 90’s but an assessment of Home Town on its own merits.

Analysis: In any movie or series, the audience should immerse themselves in the journey of the characters. Only then can they connect with the emotions and react to the characters’ struggles. This is where Home Town falls short.

Except for the comedy scenes between friends and the climax, there isn’t much to emotionally connect with. As a result, the series feels like just another regular watch rather than something impactful.

However, with no uncomfortable dialogues or scenes, Home Town is a clean family-friendly series that everyone can watch together without any worries!

Verdict: Home Town has its moments, especially in comedy and the climax, but lacks the emotional depth to leave a lasting impact. While it feels like a regular series rather than a standout one, its clean and family-friendly content makes it a decent watch for all.

Bottom Line: Clean, fun, but emotionally lacking.

Rating: 2/5
