There are no big films releasing this week, so smaller movies will try their luck at the box office. One of them is Haiku, a Tamil film featuring Court fame Sridevi Apalla as the female lead. The Telugu version will also release on the same day. Can Sridevi score a hit with this film? Let’s find out.
Haiku Story: Mano (Aegan), a software team leader, meets Nivedha (Femina George), a trainee who faces harassment from her boyfriend. As Mano supports her, questions arise about his past, his graduation from a women’s college, and his separation from Paval kodi (Sridevi Apalla). The film explores how Mano and Nivedha’s lives unfold.
Performances: Aegan delivers a natural performance but needs improvement in emotional scenes. Femina George tries to impress, while Sridevi Apalla looks too young for the heroine’s role. Brigida appears in one song, and the supporting cast leaves little impact.
Technical Aspects: Director Yuvaraj Chinnasamy has a good idea, but the routine screenplay and slow second half weaken the film. The story loses momentum after the second heroine’s entry, while the climax offers some closure.
Basic production values, average music, background score, and cinematography further limit the overall experience.
Analysis: Haiku starts on an interesting note but becomes boring due to its slow story and weak narration. It may be worth trying on OTT with the fast-forward option, but watching it in theatres can feel tiresome.
Verdict: Haiku begins with an interesting premise but loses momentum due to slow narration, a predictable screenplay, and dull execution, making it a tedious watch.
Bottom Line: An interesting start, but a boring and slow ride.
Rating: 2/5
