Gautham Vasudev Menon established himself as a director who belongs to the likes of Mani Ratnam, Shankar with his own capabilities and delivering a subject in his own unique style. His films like Cheli, Khakha Khakha/ Gharshana, Varnam Ayiram/Surya S/O Krishnan, Vinaithandi Varuvaya/ Ye Maya Chesave in both telugu and tamil. He has a cult following especially in cities and with young audience who match his sensibilities. He is known for innovating to no end with his films, he may take a two films material and make it in one like Varnam Ayiram or Accham Enbadhu Madamayida/Sahasam Sawasaga Saagipo.
He always chooses to move sway from the conventional path and deliver a good film that people like rather than something that regular dished out. He mesmerized one and all by taking a bold step with AYM starring Simbu, to have all the songs back to back in first hour of the film and have none in the second hour. His attempt actually is appreciated by young audience and when legend like AR Rahman walks into a theatre to watch Thallipogathey theatrical response, then it is something to savour for all GVM fans and the man himself.
Now, he completed almost 75% of his next with Dhanush Ennai Nokki Payum Thota in 40 days schedule and interestingly, he wanted the songs to be montages and completed shooting for them without songs. Yes, the music director is yet to come on board for this movie and the songs have been shot already. The movie is said to be voice over driven and Dhanush already likes and rates the script as one of his best and hopes the written word will be translated exactly on screen. The movie will release around April but Gautham said he is ready if Dhanush allots 15 more days for the movie, to release it in January.
