Tollywood was ruling the months from January to April when it came to theatre business and film shootings in general. When no other film industry in the country was brave enough to release their films theatrically, Tollywood was delivering back to back blockbusters in theatres.
However, the second wave of coronavirus put an end to everything, right when it looked like things were getting back to normal. The last movie to release theatrically was Pawan Kalyan’s Vakeel Saab, which managed to get good revenue, despite the onset of the second wave. From May, the Telugu states have been in lockdown, and continue to be so. With the intensity of the second wave dying down, theatres can be expected to be opened in the next couple of months.
Film shootings are expected to be resumed in July, and the new release dates of films are expected to come in from June 1st week or 2nd week. This would give an ample amount of time for makers to get the perfect release date, even in all of this chaos. Tollywood theatre owners and filmmakers are said to be planning to reopen theatres from August, by when the intensity of the second wave is expected to decrease further.
