Legendary musician Ilaiyaraaja has filed a copyright case against the makers of Good Bad Ugly for using his songs without permission.
Acting on his plea, the Madras High Court has now restrained the producers from selling, screening, or distributing the film with those songs in it.
Ilaiyaraaja alleged that three of his tracks, Otha Roopaiyum Thaaren, En Jodi Manja Kuruvi, and Ilamai Itho Itho, were used in Ajith Kumar’s film without his approval.
Earlier, he had sent a legal notice to Mythri Movie Makers. In their reply, the makers claimed they had taken the required permissions from music companies that hold the rights.
However, Ilaiyaraaja argued that their response was vague and didn’t even mention the names of the companies.
After hearing both sides, Justice N. Sethilkumar passed an interim order favoring Ilaiyaraaja, stating that the production house gave only a ‘bald reply’. The case will continue further in court.
