Jayam Ravi-Nayantara-Rahul Bose-Vinod Kishan starrer Tamil movie “Iraivan” released in Tamil last week. This film, which was made as a psycho-thriller, did not work well there. Now the makers have released the same movie in Telugu with the name “God” in translation. And let’s see if this film, which could not be played in Tamil Natana, has worked in Telugu Natana or not..!!
Story: A series of murders of girls in the city becomes a headache for Arjun (Jayam Ravi), a sincere police officer who cannot tolerate a wrongdoer living in the crosshairs of the law. Before the smiley killer Brahma (Rahul Bose) can celebrate that he has been found, he escapes and terrorizes the entire department.
Even after Arjun very cleverly catches Brahma again, brutal murders of girls continue.. This time the police family members who investigated Brahma are targeted. Who actually does these murders? Is there another killer besides Brahma? This is something to know after watching the movie “God”.
Performances: Jayam Ravi is no stranger to the role of a sincere police officer. So he played the role of Arjun as Awali. However, his characterization is not particularly commendable. It can be said that Nayanthara is the guest role in this movie. Let’s see 15 minutes of the whole movie. Narian’s role is small but he creates a good impact. Even though Rahul Bose acted as the smiley killer Brahma.
Due to his lack of proper screen presence, his role in the movie was not developed to the extent seen in the trailer. Vinod Kishan, who has been playing similar roles since “Na Parama Siva”, has entertained as a psycho killer in this film as well. Vijayalakshi, Ashish Vidyarthi, Charlie, Ashwin Kumar, Raghavendra Gopi, and others have done justice to their roles.
Technicalities: Yuvan Shankar Raja alone did justice to the film as a technician. Yuvan has created the required tension & emotion for the film with his unique background music. The songs are not played in the Telugu dubbed version. The cinematography work is also good. Especially, the way blood is projected as dark instead of bright will be liked by the audience who like that kind of movie. It would have been better if the makers were more strict in terms of editing.
Director Ahmed wanted to give a little twist to a typical psycho-killer story. Although the twist was good.. the way it was handled failed. Also.. from the beginning, they show and show the killing of girls in various ways.. In one instance, even though the killing was happening on screen, the audience got bored and could not connect to that emotion at all.
It has been proved that emotion or bloodshed is good only up to a limit, after that it becomes boring. And the sex addict character in the second half added a bit of spice to the movie, but it has become a minus. And Ahmed did not capture the battle between Vinod Kishan & Jayam Ravi properly. Therefore, that fight should be interesting. I wonder when it will end.
Analysis: “God” is a film that can moderately impress the audience who like gore thrillers.
Verdict:- Due to lack of proper drama & emotion, the movie fails to impress completely.
Rating: 1.5/5
