Abhishek Bachchan is delighted that his film, Ghoomer, will open the most recent installment of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. The opening film for the 14th iteration of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) will be the upcoming movie “Ghoomer,” starring Abhishek Bachchan, Saiyami Kher, Angad Bedi, and Shabana Azmi. The event will take place in 2023 from August 11 to August 20.

The movie follows a paraplegic athlete (Saiyami Kher) as she improves as a cricketer under the direction of her coach (Abhishek Bachchan). R. Balki, who is renowned for his emotionally charged storytelling, is the film’s director.

In a joint statement, R. Balki and Abhishek Bachchan said: “It is truly an honor and a joy for us that ‘Ghoomer’ will start the IFFM. The theme of “Ghoomer” is overcoming obstacles. A tale of ingenuity in the face of extinction. It pays homage to both sport and the capacity for human resiliency. It only makes sense that a movie about the idea that “Sport makes life worth living” would be released in Australia, the home of the MCG, which is also known as the “Sports Capital of the World.” Welcome to the ‘Ghoomer’ first trailer.

Saiyami Kher shared: “I am thrilled and extremely honoured that ‘Ghoomer’ will be the opening film at IFFM. This is a film very very close to my heart. Playing a sport on screen was always my dream, I have been manifesting it since I started acting. I’m so glad it’s finally come true. For me this film is much beyond the sport. It’s a story of triumph in extreme adversity.”

“It has been the most physically and emotionally taxing film I have done,” she continued. The fact that ‘Ghoomer’ will be seen by viewers for the first time at IFFM feels especially special. Coming to the homeland of the great Shayne Warne to screen our film couldn’t have been better.

At renowned locations all throughout Melbourne, the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne will showcase a schedule of thrilling events this year. A number of festival activities will take place in various venues, which range from the stately National Gallery of Victoria to the famed Hammer Hamer Hall.
