According to some Twitter users, Sara Ali Khan’s Gaslight, directed by Pavan Kirpalani, follows in the footsteps of many previous whodunit films. The first reactions to the murder mystery poured in on social media after the film premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on March 31.
While some Twitter users described Gaslight as “boring and slow,” others said a wheelchair-bound Sara Ali Khan “became irritating to watch after 30 minutes. In the psychological thriller, Sara Ali Khan stars Meesha, a young woman. When she arrives at her ancestral home, she realizes that something terrible has happened to her father, but she cannot persuade anyone else.
In Gaslight, Chitrangda Singh plays Sara’s stepmother Rukmini. Along with Akshay Oberoi, Shishir Sharma, and Rahul Dev, Vikrant Massey plays Sara’s father’s right-hand man, Kapil.
While many people on Twitter panned Gaslight, calling it predictable, few seemed to enjoy it. Some claim that if you’ve seen enough whodunits, you’ll be able to solve the mystery in a matter of minutes. Others weighed in on Sara’s performance as well. According to one Twitter user, “Review of Gaslight: It was bad and uninteresting. Sara Ali Khan was unconvincing again, her open mouth and doe-eyed expression not helping her. After 30 minutes, she became grating to watch. It was boring and slow.”
Sara was last seen alongside Akshay Kumar and Dhanush in Aanand L Rai’s Atrangi Re (2021). She has Ae Watan Mere Watan, Murder Mubarak, and Metro lined up for release this year.
