This year, four major Telugu and Tamil films competed for box office attention during the Pongal and Sankranti holiday seasons. Now, a major conflict is anticipated to occur on the auspicious day of Sankranti again the following year. If reports are to be believed, Mahesh Babu, Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, Nagarjuna, and Venkatesh may clash.
For those who don’t know, this year’s Pongal/Sankranti box office war was between Thalapathy Vijay’s Varisu and Ajith Kumar’s Thunivu from Kollywood. In contrast, Tollywood saw the release of Waltair Veerayya, starring Chiranjeevi-Ravi Teja, and Veera Simha Reddy, starring Balakrishna.
It was officially revealed yesterday that the release date of Mahesh Babu and Trivikram’s upcoming film is set for January 13, 2024. According to a report on Track Tollywood, the release dates of Project K, starring Prabhas, and Indian 2, starring Kamal Haasan, are also expected to coincide. In addition to these movies, Saindhav, starring Prasanna Kumar and Venkatesh, might be released during Sankranti.
If this occurs, Mahesh Babu, Prabhas, and Kamal Haasan will engage in a high-stakes pan-Indian brawl. In contrast, the films of Venkatesh and Nagarjuna will face off against all of the aforementioned pan-Indian blockbusters in Telugu-speaking states, creating an unprecedented five-way fight.
