Legendary Tamil filmmaker and actor Bharathiraja passed away today, 10-06-2026 at the age of 84 due to age related health issues. He had been unwell for the past few months.
In December 2025 he was hospitalized with respiratory complications but recovered after treatment. He was again admitted to a hospital in April and returned home after recovering completely.
Bharathiraja was one of the most influential directors in Kollywood for sure and delivered several classic films that everyone remembers still.
He worked with many top actors. His last directorial venture was Paravai Kootil Vaazhum Maangal for Amazon Prime.
In recent years he focused on acting and played many memorable roles. He is survived by his wife Chandraleela and daughter Janani. His passing marks a huge loss to Indian cinema.
