Dulquer Salmaan‘s upcoming movie Kaantha directed by Selvamani Selvaraj is said to be inspired by the life of M.K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, Tamil cinema’s first superstar.
Dulquer plays the role of T.K. Mahadevan, while Samuthirakani, Rana Daggubati and Bhagyashree Borse play key roles.
At the film’s trailer launch in Chennai’s Sathyam Cinemas Dulquer shared his love for Tamil, saying “Even my Malayalam directors used to say I speak Tamil better than Malayalam”.
He described Kaantha as a celebration of Kodambakkam’s legendary studio culture.
Calling it a “commercial yet emotional drama” he said the film took extensive effort and countless script meetings. The trailer impressed many with its classic visuals and nostalgic feel ahead of its November 14th release.
