During the Dussehra festival season three Tollywood films in the form of Megastar Chiranjeevi’s GodFather, Akkineni Nagarjuna’s The Ghost and young hero Bellamkonda Ganesh’s Swathimuthyam released on October 5th. While GodFather and Swathimuthyam received positive word of mouth from the audience, The Ghost was rejected from the early shows itself.
As the Dussehra festival season came to an end by Sunday, the trade has been calculating the overall performance of the film. Sad thing is that no of the Dussehra releases managed to achieve break-even status. Reports suggest that even though GodFather collected a worldwide share of Rs 50 crore in five days, it has long way to go to recover close to Rs 92 crore pre-release business. On the other hand, Nag’s The Ghost and Swathimuthyam are outrightly rejected by the audience.
As Dusshera releases disappointed big-time, the trade and film industry has pinned hopes on Diwali releases. Films like Karthi’s Sardar, Sivakarthikeyan’s Prince, Vishwak Sen’s Ori Devuda and Manchu Vishnu’s Ginna are hitting screens on October 21st as Diwali festival special.
