According to the actor’s admission, Kapoor said that the producers of the contemporary adaptation of William Shakespeare’s tragedy Hamlet never gave him a single dollar.
Shahid Kapoor recently disclosed to Film Companion that she played the title role in Vishal Bhardwaj Haider for free. In an interview with Indian Express, Irrfan Khan, the actor who played the “Bloody Daddy,” said, “I’m the only one who did it for free.” He was speaking about not costing the producers any money to play Haider Meer in a movie that also stars Tabu, Kay Kay Menon, Shraddha Kapoor, and Khan.
When asked about declining a pay cheque because the Haider couldn’t afford him, Shahid Kapoor was quoted as stating, “They couldn’t afford me. They claimed that because the subject of the movie was so experimental, the budget wouldn’t be approved if they had to compensate me. Even though they weren’t sure if it would succeed at all, it was a highly intriguing kind of product to create, so I agreed to produce it for free.
Kapoor responded that Haider was the only exception when asked if he had worked on any other films for free. It was the first time I did it, he claimed. It had just occurred at that moment. Yes, let’s do it; it’s okay, I responded. The actor, who is now a father of two, continued by saying that refusing to accept cash is an isolated incident and cannot become a habit. He laughed, “Ghar bhi chalana hai (I have to take care of my household as well),”
In the film Haider, which was directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, Shahid Kapoor portrayed the title character, Tabu played his mother, and Kay Kay Menon played his paternal uncle. Irrfan Khan played the Ghost in the movie, and Shraddha Kapoor played Ophelia/Horatio. In 2014, the movie was released, and it did well at the box office.
