It is a tradition in Bollywood to remake successful South Indian films for many years. This practice has had both its successes and failures but is still widely used today. Seen in Hindi cinema recently is not only remaking a film but also making sequels of such films which are remakes of some successful films.
A notable example is the Baaghi franchise, where all three movies are remakes of different South Indian films, The three Telugu movies are Varsham, Kshanam, and Tadakha. Dharma Productions by Karan Johar is also following this trend.
In 2018, he introduced Janhvi Kapoor in Dhadak which is the official remake of the Marathi movie Sairat. Similarly, Dhadak addressed the sensitive topic of honor killings in our country. Now, six years later, Johar is back with a sequel, Dhadak 2. This new installment is going to be different from its prequels in terms of directing, cast and crew.
Dhadak 2, planned for November, features Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri. This film is a remake of the Tamil blockbuster Pariyerum Perumal which explores the love affair between a boy and a girl belonging to different castes. Similar to the first part, the storyline of Dhadak 2 will also revolve around issues such as caste and honor killing.a
