Devil is one of the most awaited films as Kalyan Ram will be seen in a never before role in his career. The period drama was released today and let’s see how it is.

Story: The story is set in a British era and one fine day, a daughter of a Zamindar gets killed. The government appoints Devil aka Kalyan Ram to investigate the case and when he digs deep into the case, a mysterious web of lies and deceit erupts and Devil gets engrossed into deeper problems. How he comes out is the story of the Devil.

Performances: Kalyan Ram is the highlight of the film and his performance drives the narrative. He is seen in a new look and his body language showcases how comfortable he is in his role. Samyukta Menon the lucky heroine gets a key role and does well in her character. The other star cast of the film have done well in their roles.

Technical Aspects: One of the biggest assets of the film is the amazing production values. The makers have spent a lot of money and it is seen in every frame of the film. The music is dull but the background score is amazing. The period set up and how the British era is showcased is just amazing in the film. The editing should have been a lot better in the first half.

Analysis: Devil is a very prestigious project and has been mounted on a massive scale. The film is directed by Naveen Medaram and he is not credited as the director of the film. But still, he makes his presence felt.

The film starts on an intriguing note but slows down later on. The thrills showcased are packed for the latter half and some of them even surprise you at once.

The actual drama begins in the second half and once it does, there is no looking back for the film. Kalyan Ram holds our attention and the engaging drama is narrated sincerely.

Had the first half also been packed more engagingly, the output would have been a lot better. But still, Devil packs a punch and keeps the audience engaged.

Verdict: On the whole, Devil is a sincere attempt that holds our attention for the most part. Had the first part been better, the output would have been more satisfying. But still, it ends as a decent watch this weekend.

Bottom Line: Has its moments
