“De De Pyaar De 2”, starring Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, Madhavan, and Meezaan Jafri, is the sequel to the 2019 hit. Does it match the original charm and give Rakul another Bollywood hit?

De De Pyaar De 2 Story: Ayesha (Rakul Preet Singh) loves Ashish (Ajay Devgn), who is 22 years older, and wants to marry him. In the prequel, his first wife was the obstacle. In the sequel, her progressive parents, Raj (Madhavan) and Anju (Gautami Kapoor), oppose the marriage. Will they accept Ashish, or what challenges will the couple face? This is “De De Pyaar De 2”.

Performances: Madhavan shines in a strong supporting role, adding depth as a father. His pairing with Ajay Devgn, seen earlier as hero and villain in Shaitan, feels fresh as uncle and father-in-law, blending comedy and emotion well.

Rakul Preet Singh, without a hit for six years since De De Pyaar De, delivers her best here, though her added glamour feels forced at times. Gautami Kapoor, Meezaan Jafri, and Jaaved Jafri enhance the story with their screen presence.

Technical Aspects: Technically, the film feels cramped, unlike usual Bollywood movies with lavish sets and grand locations. Most scenes, especially Madhavan’s house, are shot on studio sets, which look unnatural, and weak CGI makes the production design feel unrealistic, likely a budget issue. On the bright side, songs, cinematography, costumes, and choreography are well-executed, with montage song sequences standing out.

Director Anshul Sharma overcomplicates a simple story, adding unnecessary drama and twists that disrupt the mix of emotion and comedy. While some comedy works, the extra twists make the film drag, leaving viewers wondering when it will end.

Analysis: “De De Pyaar De 2” tries to be contemporary but follows old, predictable methods. It’s okay for time-pass, but a more mature approach could have given audiences a better experience.

Verdict: “De De Pyaar De 2” is a time-pass comedy with decent performances and some laughs, but weak production, predictable plot, and unnecessary twists keep it from feeling fresh or engaging.

Bottom Line: A time-pass comedy with weak execution.

Rating: 2/5
