Dasari Narayana Rao a name the new generation of Telugu Cinema audience are not completely familiar with. They just know him as a man who is called to audio functions and given some respect. Why he is respected so much? Or Why he is called a Guru? Not many are absolutely in know. He started his career as a writer for movies like Mohammad bin Tughluq and got a break as a director with Swargam- Narakam. After that he scored memorable hits like Tatha – Manavadu, Balipeetam and earned a name for himself with his new writing and strong women centric content.

Slowly, he also started concentrating on big budget movies with star heroes like ANR, NTR, Krishna, Sobhan Babu and Krishnam Raju. He gave blockbusters with each actor. With Akkineni Nageswara Rao he made most of his movies and delivered hits like Premabhishekam, Megha Sandesam, Bahudoorapu Batasari, Eedansthathula Meda and many more. With Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao he delivered blockbusters like Bobbili Puli and Sardaar Papa Rayudu. With Krishna, Sobhan Babu and Krishnam Raju he worked most in rotation while also doing medium budget movies with women centric themes and heroes like Murali Mohan. He introduced Mohan Babu and designed his career with his movies. He also used to direct many movies at a time simultaneously and had many assistant directors handling different units.

He became a parallel industry with so many films and assistants while K Raghavendra Rao, Kodanda Rami Reddy used to direct their movies on other hand. Many big directors like Relangi Narasimha Rao, Kodi Ramakrishna, Raja Vannem Reddy and many more were his protégés. He also did memorable films like Sivaranjani, Osey Ramulamma with Jayasudha, Vijaya Shanti propelling them to box office star status. With Chiranjeevi he directed his 100th film, Lankeswarudu, with Nagarjuna Akkineni gave him his second biggest hit during his early career, Majnu and directed his 150th film, Parama Veera Chakra with Nandamuri Balakrishna. Among the fantastic four of 90’s he did more movies with Venkatesh.

Recently, he directed Manchu Vishnu and acted in Erra Bus. He is also known as an actor and won Nandi Award too. As a director he is known for his captivating themes and forward thinking. Even though he worked with greats like Savitri, ANR, NTR, SVR he missed working with Jayalalitha who started her career in 1960’s. He even expressed his disappointment over the same during his interview while talking about Amma Jayalalitha remembering her. Taking his idea to give her a tribute he is writing a screenplay regarding her life and planning the movie in three languages, Hindi, Telugu and Tamil. Will he touch upon controversial aspects of her life? Whom will he cast? Will AIADMK allow him to make? Well, time will answer these questions.
