During the festive season, competition for screens is a common occurrence. Sankranti, in particular, witnesses the release of big-budget Telugu films, as well as mid-range ones. These are often accompanied by Tamil dubbed films, which tend to pale in comparison to the dominant Telugu offerings. However, a shift is evident in Dussehra 2023.
This trend has long been a concern, especially in the Tamil market, where Telugu dubbed films struggle during the festive season. In contrast, Tamil dubbed films in the Telugu market tend to find acceptance. When these films boast compelling content, as seen with movies like “Jailer” and “Bhola Shankar,” the dubbed versions can even surpass local releases.
Following the success of Rajinikanth’s “Jailer,” Vijay’s “Leo” is set to repeat this phenomenon. It’s releasing alongside two straight Telugu releases, “Bhagavanth Kesari” and “Tiger Nageswara Rao.” “Leo” holds a substantial number of theaters, largely due to the reputation of its director, Lokesh Kanagaraj.
Lokesh’s previous films, including “Kaithi,” “Master,” and “Vikram,” performed exceptionally well in the Telugu states. “Leo” is expected to follow suit, given the positive insider reports. This unique battle sees a Tamil movie generating more buzz in the Telugu states than the Telugu offerings. All eyes are now on the upcoming weekend when these three films will hit the screens.
