Darling is one film that has been promoted in a very aggressive manner in the last few days. Featuring Priyadarshi and Nabha Natesh in lead roles. The film has hit the screens today. Read our review here.

Darling Story:  The film is about Raghav(Priyadarshi), whose only aim is to get married and take his wife on a honeymoon to Paris. One fine day, he meets Anandi(Nabha Natesh) and finds her attractive. He proposes marriage to her and ties the knot. Things change upside down only when Raghav finds out that his wife has split personality disorder. Well, how he faces this problem and ends up leading a happy life is the basic story of the film.

Performances: It is a tailor-made role of Priyadarshi and he does well in the film. His sadness evokes fun for others, and the manner in which he faces emotional trauma, torcher from his wife, played by Nabha, has been showcased quite well by the actor. Nabha Natesh gets the best role in the film. Even though she looks rustic as a person with split personality disorder, Nabha manages well by the film’s end. Vishnu Oi‘s role as a friend was good, and the rest of the cast was decent. Ananya Nagalla as the doctor was good.

Technical Aspects: Vivek Sagar‘s music is good but even better was his background score. The dialogues were hilarious, and those written for Darshi were amazing. How the screenplay is created looks odd. There is no seriousness in the issues showcased, and more sense in the way the split personality disorder was showcased would have made a lot of sense. The production values were very good, and so was the production design. The camerawork showcasing the middle-class setup was also okay. Editing is a big letdown, and the film is close to two hours and 40 minutes.

Analysis :  Darling has a simple concept of a person having a split personality disorder and how the husband deals with this. The same aspect could have been showcased in a very serious manner, but the makers chose to narrate the film in a lighter manner.

The first half of the film is showcased in a light-hearted manner, and there is plenty of comedy when Darshi comes to know about his wife’s issue. There is a significant twist revealed at the breakpoint that makes things even more critical.

But it is the second half, which is disappointing. The aspect of split personality disorder is showcased in a very bad manner, and due to this, the emotions go for a toss. But in all this, Darshi and his performance keep things interesting.

The climax and the manner in which things are ended look decent. But one of the most significant drawbacks of the film is the runtime, which is quite long and keeps going on. The editing failed in this aspect, and if the film had been narrated in a two-hour format, the output would have been excellent.

Verdict:  Overall, Darling has some good moments that are showcased in a funny manner. But it is the runtime that spoils the fun to an extent. If you ignore this aspect, Darling is a passable fare this weekend.

Bottom Line – Passable Comedy
