Darbar

Senior director, Murugudoss has joined hands with Rajini for the first time with Darbar which is out today. Read on to see how it turns out to be.

Story: Aditya Arunachalam played by Rajini is the Mumbai police commissioner who is trying to clean the city. In this process, he takes on a villain played by Sunil Shetty who is unknown to many. Things become serious when Aditya lands hands on the villains son killing him. This leads to internal war and Aditya’s daughter played by Nivetha Thomas gets effected. What happens next is the rest of the story.

Performances: Rajini is completely in his elements and has given a superb performance in the film. He is superb with his one liners and showcases his swag like never before. Nivetha is another star of the film with her brilliant role. She is quite good as Rajinis daughter who is the main stay of the film.

Sunil Shetty is a dull villain in this film and is not used well. Nayanthara has the weakest role and has absolutely nothing to do. The rest of the cast like Yogi Babu was just okay.

Analysis: Murugudoss has taken a very old and cliched story and has given his spin to it. While he engages the Rajini fans he leaves the villains track very dull. There is nothing special as the confrontation we expect is missing in the film.

The first half of the film is very good with superb drama and crime scenes. This part engages the audience completely and the interval bang is also very good and makes for a good second half.

But once the second half starts the film falls flat and goes down time and again at regular intervals making the film a very dull watch. If you are a Rajini fan this is for you but for others this a routine watch.

Rating: 2.5/5
