Court Shock For Ilaiyaraaja In Copyright Case

Legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja has been facing criticism over his legal claims on songs used in several films.

Some producers reportedly paid money after he asserted his rights. However the Delhi High Court ruled against him in a case filed by music label Saregama.

The court stated that the sound recordings and musical works of 134 films belong to Saregama as they hold valid agreements with producers.

The dispute also involves the Tamil song “En Iniya Pon Nilave”. Ilaiyaraaja had uploaded some tracks on streaming platforms claiming rights.

The verdict came as a setback for the composer and highlighted the huge importance of clear copyright ownership in the music industry without fail.
