Rajinikanth’s film Coolie directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, released on August 14th and is now running in its third week.
The movie received an ‘A’ certificate from the Censor Board but the makers wanted a ‘U/A’ certificate so children could also watch it.
They filed a petition in the Madras H.C arguing that violent scenes are common in Tamil films and that they had already removed some objectionable content like bad language and drinking shots.
However the Censor Board explained that the film still has heavy violence and that the team had first agreed to the ‘A’ certificate before requesting a change.
The Board added that only by cutting all violent scenes could the film get a ‘U/A’ rating. After hearing both sides, Judge T.V. Tamil Selvi dismissed the producers’ plea.
With this, Coolie will continue with its ‘A’ rating, and fans now wait for its OTT release.
