Recently the famous composer maestro Ilaiyaraaja has filed a case against the makers of Rajinikanth’s upcoming film “Coolie” for using his tunes. Now, he has repeated the same thing with another movie “Manjummel Boys” directed by Chidambaram. That is why the comical show “Manjummel Boys” attracts people and viewers from different linguistic areas.
The film also has ‘Kammani’, from the film ‘Guna’ starring Kamal Haasan. This song is used in the initial and the last scenes of the movie. Audiences have received this feature positively, however, Ilaiyaraaja, the video’s composer, has not been satisfied with its usage.
A legal notice has been served by Ilaiyaraaja’s lawyer to the directors of the Malayalam movie “Manjummel Boys” for using the song. The notice highlights the fact that the filmmakers had no permission to use the composition in their movie. As the movie is also available online through OTT platforms, the notice seeks monetary remuneration for the usage of the song.
Peculiarly, the filmmakers state that they obtained permission from the music label that owns the audio rights to “Guna. ” This raises questions about the nature of the permit obtained and if this actually applies to the use in the film. It will be quite instructive to watch how the “Manjummel Boys” team would respond to this legal tussle initiated by Ilaiyaraaja.
