Mani Ratnam, the name itself is synonymous for many with meaningful, artistic cinema and great technical brilliance as well. He is the man behind classics like Nayagan, Anjali, Geetanjali, Mouna Ragam, Thalapathy, Iddaru, Roja, Bombay, Dil Se and Sakhi. These films have made him not just a popular director but a story teller and visual magician to enjoy in a theatre. His films always had strong music courtesy greats like Ilaiyaraja and later, AR Rahman. Rahman is a strong undividable fixture to his films from Roja and the duo have given one after the great albums.
Mani Ratnam’s weaker films like Yuva, Raavan/ Villain, Guru, OK Bangaram boast of a great visual pattern and songs too. Mani has never seen wanted in technical aspects of filmmaking and he enjoys translating his complex ideas on screen with the aid of brilliant cameramen like PC Sreeram, Santhosh Sivan and Rajeev Menon. He is working for the first time with Ravi Varman for his next movie, Cheliya in Telugu/Kaatru Veliyidai in Tamil and just the initial glimpse promised a huge spectacle on screen. The team has decided to release the first song on 3rd February and AR Rahman will do it on social media via Facebook and Twitter, it seems.
Cheliya is produced by Madras Talkies, Mani Ratnam in Telugu and Tamil, and it is distributed and presented by Dil Raju in Telugu. Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari are acting in this love saga and as said earlier, the glimpse released by Sony yesterday for Republic Day, made the fans of the actor and director go gaga over the visuals and the music too. After a long time it looked like a Mani Ratnam film letting his fans forget Kadali. The movie release has been previously planned for February but now, they have changed it to April 7th and the film will see a decent release in Telugu and grand release in Tamil it seems.
