Tollywood ruled the theatre scene early this year, and things were looking good in several months. After a massive hit, theatres were once again thriving in the Telugu states and turned out to be examples for the rest of the country. Just as everything was turning out to be good again, the second wave of coronavirus struck, and shootings were stalled, and theatres were closed.
With the intensity of the second wave now subsiding, and with the state government providing relaxations in the lockdown, Tollywood is getting ready to get back in action from July. It is also estimated that films will be released in theatres from July last week or August first week, at 50% capacity. Given that theatres are going to be open with 50% capacity, theatres owners would like for the state governments to give them permission to hike ticket prices, as they were slashed greatly last time.
Theatre owners and distributors are expected to meet with the Cheif Ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh very soon and discuss the hiking of ticket prices. On the other hand, every major film is planning to resume shooting from July first week.
