Noted heroine Anupama Parameswaran’s film, Butterfly under the direction of Ghanta Satish Babu had a direct-to-OTT release on Disney Plus Hotstar today. Let’s see how it fares.
Story: Set in a gated community, the film revolves around the kidnap mystery of two kids. Who kidnaps the children? How a criminal lawyer Vyjayanthi( Bhumika Chawla) and her younger sister Geetha( Anupama Parameswaran) interlinked with the proceedings? How the kidnap drama unfolds? To know that, you have to watch the film exclusively on Disney Plus Hotstar.
Performances: Anupama Parameswaran is impressive in her performance-oriented role. Her acting during the panic scenes brings depth to the proceedings. In emotional scenes, Anupama acted well.
On the other hand, Bhumika Chawla did her part decently in her purposeful role. Her scenes with Anupama are emotionally coated and elevate the mood of the film nicely.
Noted actor Rao Ramesh is okay with his usual acting as a wicked-minded lawyer. Other artists such as Nihal Kodhaty and others are fine in their limited yet key roles.
Technicalities: Music composed by Arviz and Gideon Katta is apt to the emotional content. The film has a situation song that is passable. The background score is engaging enough.
The cinematography work by Sameer Reddy is fine. He captured the mood of the film nicely. The editing work by Madhu Chintala is good as he kept the runtime within limits.
The production values for this limited-budget movie are good.
Analysis: Director Ghanta Satish Babu’s idea of exploring a kidnap drama is good. While his writing is decent, Satish presented the entire film on a gripping note. He tried to showcase the depth in the content nicely without any deviations.
Though the film has a few loopholes related to a flat in the apartments, the demerits are overshadowed by an engaging narrative. The kidnappers perspective is not showcased with a good presentation and it comes as a main minus.
To summarize, Butterfly is kidnap drama that a few thrilling moments in the narrative. Considering the OTT outing, Bufferfly can be watched happily with family members this weekend by sitting at home.
