Karthi decided to stand by his friend and producer KE Gnanavelraja, who is facing financial problems. To support him Karthi signed Vaa Vaathiyar and completed the shoot on time.
After many delays the film was planned for release on December 12th. However, Gnanavelraja could not clear his old debts and the film’s release was stopped.
The team tried hard to solve the issues and release the film during Christmas but the Madras High Court ordered a stay on its release. The makers then approached the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court refused to lift the ban and the film could not be out. Amazon Prime had bought the digital rights for a high price and was pushing for a release before Christmas. But since there is no clarity on the release date, Vaa Vaathiyar will not release this year.
Amazon has now stepped back from the deal which is a big loss for the team. Despite Karthi’s support, the problems could not be resolved.
