Big Relief For Rajinikanth In…
Rajinikanth has received major relief in a long running service tax case related to a commercial property he owns in Chennai.
The Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal cancelled an earlier order that asked him to pay service tax for leasing the building without fail.
The property on Kodambakkam High Road was rented to the restaurant chain Vasantha Bhavan to operate the hotel. The service tax department had demanded about Rs. 56.84 lakh for the period between 2007 and 2012. Rajini challenged the order in 2016.
During the hearing his lawyer argued that the building was rented only for hotel operations which are exempt from service tax under the Finance Act. The tribunal agreed and ruled in the actor’s favour, cancelling the tax demand.
On the film front Rajinikanth will next appear in Jailer 2.
