The initial choice for the on-screen portrayal of brothers Karan Arjun was Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol.
Everything that happened in Bollywood throughout the 1990s became a story to tell. One such anecdote is how Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan’s remarkable chemistry as brothers was developed through the legendary casting story of Rakesh Roshan’s mega successful movie Karan Arjun. In the movie, the two actors solidified their bromance as a dominant force. But what if we told you that Sunny Deol would have been dancing to Jaati Hun Main, Jaldi Hai Kya if everything had gone according to plan?
Rakesh Roshan insisted on using Sunny and Bobby Deol as Karan and Arjun even though Juhi Chawla was the original pick for Kajol’s part. He asked Sunny Paaji for help with it, and Sunny Paaji loved the story and agreed to play Arjun’s part.
The movie’s original title was Kaaynaath. Sunny Deol agreed to star in the movie, but he second-guessed himself once he learned that Bobby Deol had been granted Karan’s role. He politely explained why he couldn’t work on the movie right away, and Rakesh Roshan graciously accepted it.
Bobby Deol was a rookie when Karan Arjun was offered to him, according to IMDB trivia. While preparing for his acting debut in Barsaat, Sunny Deol worried that he would outshine Bobby Deol. Bobby Deol also rejected the movie, as did him! Later, the movie was given to Shah Rukh Khan, who was offered Arjun, and Ajay Devgn, who was offered Karan.
But because he wanted to portray Arjun, even Ajay Devgn withdrew. Salman Khan then entered the picture and offered Bollywood a chemistry that was unmatched. When they share a screen together, he and Shah Rukh Khan continue to perform like magicians.
In Dillagi, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol reunited to portray brothers for the first time on screen after missing this superhit. Dillagi was Sunny’s passion project, but it did not perform well at the box office.
The brother team collaborated on the films Poster Boys, Yamla Pagla Deewana, and Apne. Apne 2 is currently being worked on as well.
