This year’s Sankranthi was supposed to see the release of two of India’s biggest films, RRR – scheduled to have been released on January 7th, and Radhe Shyam – scheduled to have been released on January 14th. However, due to the rapid spreading of Omicron across the country, which has either resulted in the complete shutting down of theatres or a 50% occupancy of them, in several states in the country, the release of these films had to be postponed.
Tollywood continues to see the release of a few films for Sankranthi though, with the major player being Nagarjuna’s Bangarraju, which is a sequel to his film Soggade Chinni Nayana. The film also stars Naga Chaitanya alongside Nagarjuna in the film, who is said to have equal screentime as that of his father’s. According to the latest reports, Bangarraju is doing a highly impressive pre-release business, the highest ever in both Nagarjuna and Naga Chaitanya’s career so far.
