Bad publicity doomed Kashmir Files?

The Kashmir Files, directed by Vivek Agnihotri, starring Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty and several others in the lead roles, which was released in March, became a nationwide sensation, raking in more than a 100 Crores worldwide against its very modest budget. The film is the first success for Bollywood in a long time, theatrically, and any other film is yet to cross Kashmir Files’ success in Bollywood.

Naturally, when a film is such a bombastic success in the theatres, one would expect the same to translate to the small screen, in this case, the OTT space. However, Kashmir Files has received a really dismal response in the OTT space, with not many tuning in to watch the film. The Telugu version of the film is especially lamentable, with no takers at all.

The reason for this dismal performance is being cited as the poor promotional strategies of Zee 5, on which Kashmir Files was released on the 13th of this month. Here’s hoping the film will pick up in the days to come.
