China has become the biggest market for International films. The market showed huge potential for Indian films too with Dangal, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Secret Superstar and English Medium. But somehow, Baahubali-1 couldn’t repeat the success it found elsewhere around the world. It got the distinction of the biggest hit of India but still in China it just ended up collecting few millions.
Now, the second portion got a huge release even though the first part did not work as the second one became a big hit in Japan as well. The promotions in China worked and the movie collected 7.6 Million USD over the weekend. With this opening, the movie gave a hope that the Baahubali series will be a genuine global hit for Indian Cinema.
There is a catch here, for the kind of wide release it secured, many thought it would have a 20 Million USD weekend but as the genre is not fresh for Chinese and they have been accustomed to such huge budget action bonanzas that deal with period themes and war, they preferred to watch more social dramas than this series. Still, the movie earned considerable respect for Indian Cinema all over the world and especially, Telugu people are still in awe of its achievements.
