B Saroja Devi, Queen Of South Indian Cinema, Passes Away

B Saroja Devi passed away at the age of 87 in Bangalore due to age related health issues. She had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital and breathed her last around 9 AM today.

Born in 1938 in Bangalore, Saroja Devi was a prominent figure in Indian cinema especially in South Indian films.

Though she was offered a film at 13 she entered movies with Mahakavi Kalidasu in 1955 which became a big hit. In 1957 her role in Panduranga Mahatyam brought her immense fame in Telugu cinema.

Over her illustrious career spanning 70 years she acted in nearly 200 films in all the languages.

In 1985 while working on Ladies Hostel, her husband fell seriously ill and passed away the following year.

Deeply affected by his loss she took a break from films and did not sign any new projects for nearly five years.
