Asha Sarath who impressed audiences as a police officer in Drishyam went on to play the same role in its Tamil remake Papanasam and later in the Kannada version.
In an interview she shared that her love for the character is still strong even after 10 years and she thanked director Jeethu Joseph for the opportunity.
“When I first heard the story I thought I would be given a mother’s role. But when I was told it was a negative character, I stayed quiet for a few minutes. It was the trust Jeethu sir and Mohanlal sir had in me that gave me courage”, she said.
Asha revealed that though Jeethu had initially decided not to cast Malayalam actors in Tamil, her performance changed his mind.
A trained Bharatanatyam dancer she also said it was a dream come true to work with Kamal Haasan in Papanasam. She credited her husband’s support for helping her chase her dreams after marriage.
