Asha Bhosle slams music directors for not being creative enough targeting RRKPK

What Jhumka? by Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani prompted Asha Bhosle to criticise music producers for failing to innovate.

Since it debuted on theatre screens, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, has dominated the box office. The Karan Johar movie won praise from viewers and reviewers once it came out, and it still does well financially despite the release of Gadar 2 and OMG 2. Along with its compelling storyline, it has garnered attention for its upbeat music, notably the viral hit “What Jhumka?”

The song, sung by Arijit Singh and Jonita Gandhi, is a recreation of the iconic singer’s original performance of “Jhumka Gira Re Bareli Ke Bazaar Mein” in the 1966 film Mera Saaya. This is the actress’ response to the same.

When asked about the remix of ‘What Jhumka?’ in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani in an interview, Asha Bhosle, the original singer of Jhumka Gira Re, criticised the music directors for failing to add anything new. “If the music directors or singers had the ability to bring something new… they don’t have the ability, which is why they are recreating old songs,” she claimed. And currently ‘Jhumka Gira Re’ is doing so well, for instance. It appeared in a recent movie. It is a dated tune.

Asha Bhosle further added, “These songs have lyrics, singers and music. It’s a combination of everything. And not just that, even the actors. If the cinematographer had not shot the songs well, the picturisation wouldn’t have left an impact. It’s a team effort. That’s how you make a good song.”

“Those songs required a lot of labour. The composer and lyricist would have a conversation. Every phrase would be discussed. Even the most famous lyricists would contend for each word. “I want that word, not this word,” was said. Both parties put forth a lot of effort,” says Asha Bhosle.
