Actor Sonu Sood, who is promoting his upcoming movie Fateh, recently opened up about declining a role in Dabangg 2. Sharing an anecdote related to his iconic antagonist Chhedi Singh in the 2010 blockbuster ‘Dabangg,’ Sood revealed that he had rejected the same role in Dabangg 2.
Sonu Sood is known for playing villain roles in languages like Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil movies. In a candid interview, the actor disclosed that the character was uninteresting, which led him to decline the role. He also shared that Salman Khan and Arbaaz Khan had approached him for the role of Chhedi Singh’s brother in Dabangg 2. He then added that despite sharing a close relationship with the Khan brothers, who are like family to him, Sonu rejected the offer.
Speaking to Humans of Bombay, Sonu explained his decision and emphasized the importance of saying “no” to a project when it doesn’t feel right. He said, “The role didn’t excite me. I told them, ‘If I’m not feeling excited about this, how can I do it?’” He then added that Arbaaz and Salman respected his choice and assured him there were “no issues” with his decision.
Sonu also said that despite turning down the role, he attended the film’s premiere at Salman Khan’s invitation. Talking about the Dabangg franchise, the action-comedy movie set in Uttar Pradesh, where Salman Khan plays a quirky cop, Chulbul Pandey, while Sood, as Chhedi Singh, left a lasting impression as one of the most memorable Bollywood villains. Directed by Abhinav Kashyap, Dabangg and its sequel, Dabangg 2, were blockbusters, while its third installment was a flop.
Meanwhile, Sonu Sood is gearing up for his next release, Fateh. The action-packed movie marks Sood’s debut as a director and producer. The film is scheduled to release on January 10, 2025. The film also stars Jacqueline Fernandez and Vijay Raaz.
