Sree Vishnu and Amritha Iyer’s new film, Arjuna Phalguna under the direction of Johaar fame Teja Marni has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.

Story: Set in a rural backdrop, Arjuna Phalguna revolves around the life story of five childhood friends. Being the gang leader, Arjun(Sree Vishnu) decides to tilt towards drugs smuggling for easy money. Why is Arjun after drug smuggling? What kind of hurdles will the friends’ gang face in the entire process? Forms the rest of the story.

Performances: Sree Vishnu gave a decent performance in his role as a small village guy. His acting in a few emotional scenes in the first half brings depth to the proceedings.

Heroine Amritha Iyer is cute as village belle but her role lacks depth in it. On the other hand, the chemistry between Amritha and Sree Vishnu is not showcased in a convincing manner.

Senior actors like Sivaji Raja and Naresh are decent in their supporting roles. Subba Raju is okay in his cop role but is not utilized properly. Jabardasth Mahesh and the other two artists who played key roles are decent in their respective characters.

Technicalities: usic by Priyadarshan Balasubramanian is nice but the lack of strong content in the film dilutes his work.

While the cinematography by Jagadeesh Cheekati is okay, editing by Viplav Nyshadam is a major minus.

Production values for this limited budget are okay.

Analysis: Teja Marni directs Arjuna Phalguna. After watching the movie no one understands what exactly the director tried to showcase as the entire proceedings lack gripping presentation and engaging scene order.

Though the director’s idea of making a crime centric emotional drama is decent, he would have focused on writing a racy and arresting screenplay.

To summerize, Arjuna Phalguna is an aimless crime thriller that lacks strong content and execution. If you like Sree Vishnu’s on-screen performance, then you can give it a try when the film is released on the online streaming platform.

Verdict: Misses target!

Rating: 2/5
