Musk’s main issue is that Apple stuck with the generic term “AI” instead of a unique name like Google’s “Gemini.” He also raised concerns about Apple’s reliance on OpenAI, suggesting that it could make iPhones and other Apple products vulnerable to data theft.
To illustrate his point, Musk shared a meme that quickly went viral. The meme showed a girl drinking from a coconut with a straw while a guy sipped the same coconut through her mouth. This image is actually a poster from a 2017 Tamil film called “Theppattam.” The meme’s widespread attention led the filmmakers to thank Musk on Twitter, seemingly unaware of the context in which he shared it.
Musk’s critique has highlighted the potential security risks of using third-party AI technology and has brought unexpected fame to the obscure movie poster. The filmmakers’ gratitude suggests they may not fully understand the critical context of Musk’s tweet, which used their poster as a humorous analogy for data vulnerability.
