The Andhra Pradesh government shocked everyone when it announced its plan of booking cinema tickets through an online platform similar to that of IRCTC, and also said that the revenue of any film would first go to the government’s account directly. This has caused quite the stir in the state and has gotten everyone talking and wondering why the big names of Tollywood haven’t responded on the matter yet.
Keeping this aside, it is important to note that there are several films that are ready to release in Telugu right now, and the release dates of these films are being officially announced, one after the other. While the owners of theatres in the Telangana state would not recur many losses, the Andhra Pradesh exhibition industry seems to be in great danger.
Trade analysts are said to be of the belief that many single screen owners and runners would have to shut down their theatres due to the AP government’s move. This also affects the business of a film in the state, with distributors and theatre owners buying a film for huge prices, and later not being able to get their investment back due to the government’s rules. It is now to be seen what will happen.
