Anurag Kashyap Opens up on Failure of Bombay Velvet , Clarifies his Castings

Anurag Kashyap explains why he chose to make Karan Johar the antagonist in Bombay Velvet.

One of Bollywood’s most well-known directors, Anurag Kashyap has produced a number of box office hits that will live on in the hearts of viewers forever. However, his movie Bombay Velvet, in which Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma played the key parts, had a shocking box office failure. The director recently discussed the film’s failure and admitted that he should have made it the way his colleague Vikramaditya Motwane did the web series Jubilee and that he shouldn’t have became fixated on the funding he received for the movie.

Anurag Kashyap, the director of the eight-year-old film Bombay Velvet, reflected on what went wrong during production and acknowledged that he would have succeeded if he hadn’t become overwhelmed by the budget and thought of it as a 300 crore movie that had to be created for 90 crore. However, he decided to stay by his choice of hiring Karan Johar, who had drawn criticism for his performance in the movie.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap discussed his movie Bombay Velvet, which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, and Karan Johar, in an interview. The movie just celebrated its eighth anniversary, and the director believes he could have made a better movie. In his own words, “Had I looked at it as an ambitious Rs 300 crore film that I was to make in Rs 90 crore, I would have flourished.”

Anurag stated he thinks he made the right option in choosing Karan Johar to play the movie’s villain. He claimed, “He didn’t let me down, I let him down.”

For the uninitiated, Karan Johar has not appeared in many films since the movie garnered extremely negative reviews. It’s interesting to note that Anurag Kashyap sent Karan a cheque for Rs. 11, without charging him a single thing for the movie.
