Anupama Parameswaran has lodged a complaint with the Kerala Cyber Crime Police after being targeted in an organised online harassment campaign.
She revealed that fake social media accounts were created to spread edited photos and false claims about her also her family and her friends from the industry.
In a detailed Instagram post, Anupama explained that the issue came to her attention a few days ago when an account began posting inappropriate and fabricated content. “The posts contained morphed images and baseless allegations. It was painful to see such targeted harassment”, she wrote.
Following her complaint police traced the activity to a 20 year old woman from Tamil Nadu who had allegedly operated several fake profiles.
However Anupama decided not to reveal the woman’s identity, saying she did not want to ruin her future or peace of mind, choosing instead to handle the matter with compassion.
