Anupam Kher’s ‘The Kashmir Files ‘Completes a Year

‘The Kashmir Files’ documents the alleged genocide and eviction of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990 during the revolt in Jammu and Kashmir. The movie features Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumaar, Chinmay Mandlekar, and Bhasha Sumbli. The film had a successful run at the box office.

The film was recently convicted of Best Film at Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards.

On Saturday, Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s directorial ‘The Kashmir Files’ turned one. Marking the memorable occasion, Agnihotri took to Twitter and expressed his gratitude to the public for giving tremendous love to the film. He wrote, “#1YearOfTheKashmirFiles.Thank you, everyone, for your love. Especially to all my Bharat ki mothers & sisters; nothing is possible without your blessings. I pray and strive to ensure #RightToJustice for my Kashmiri brothers & sisters. GRATITUDE.”

The Kashmir Files was set to release theatrically worldwide on 26 January 2022, overlapping with India’s Republic Day, but was postponed due to the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. It was initially released on over 630 screens in India on 11 March 2022 and was later expanded to 4,000 screens. The film was re-released on 19 January 2023. The film premiered for worldwide streaming on ZEE5 on 13 May 2022 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Indian Sign Language. With this film, ZEE5 became the first OTT platform to release a commercial Bollywood film with an understanding of Indian Sign Language. The film also recorded the highest number of views for ZEE5 during its opening weekend and the first week at more than 6 million and 9 million, respectively.

Agnihotri is now working on his next film, ‘The Vaccine War’, which is headlined by Nana Patekar. Anupam Kher is also a part of the movie, which revolves around India’s contributions to the race to produce a Covid-19 vaccine during the pandemic.
