Anupam Kher remembered that despite giving a strong performance in Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro by Kundan Shah, his part was eliminated just days before the movie’s premiere.
Anupam Kher made his cinematic debut in Mahesh Bhatt’s 1984 film Saaransh as an elderly man, but before landing his big break in that movie, Kher had previously appeared in Kundan Shah’s 1983 film Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro in a “strong” role. Kher recalls being quite confident in his performance and certain that after people saw his work, he would definitely get more work in a recent conversation.
Kher recounted how it was only after much struggle that he was given the opportunity to work on Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro while promoting his next movie Shiv Shastri Balboa. Usme badi mushkil se mujhe ek role mila tha, he remarked. Disco killer ka, bada acha role tha. That’s a really strong role. Do the hi-scenes. I was quite excited because Saaransh had not yet arrived, so I watched the scenes in anticipation. (It was quite difficult for me to land a part in that movie. The job of disco killer was fantastic. very strong role There were just two scenes. I was hoping that whoever watched this would definitely give me work at the time because I hadn’t yet received Saaransh.)
Days prior to the movie’s release, director Kundan Shah called Anupam and informed him that his scenes had been changed and would no longer be included. “Kundan Shah contacted me just before the movie’s release and said, “Yaar, film ke length badh rahi thi, maine tere dono scene kaat diye.” (Since the movie is getting longer, I’ve cut both of your scenes.
Aapke sath nahi bhi hota hai, voh bhi acha hi hota hai; else mujhe Saaransh mein shayad utna nahi milta, according to Kher, who claimed that he eventually realised there was a bright side to this tragedy. (At this point, my life’s philosophy is that whatever you lose out on works out for the best. If not, I might not have acquired this much Saaransh).
Earlier, Kundan Shah writer-director Saeed Akhtar Mirza had also mentioned Kher’s involvement in the movie. In truth, Anupam Kher also had a role in the movie, he claimed on a programme. As a marksman, he had performed. However, we had to remove that material from the final cut.
